Lord British unshered in a new era of peace and harmoney for the lands of Britannia. To do so, evil had to be vanquished not only in physical manifestations, but also in the hearts and minds of all people in the realm. An Avatar - a shinning example of virtue and heroism - was needed to show the way. Undertaking the task of unraveling the concepts of spirituality, you must discover the great Codex of Ultimat Wisdom to attain the title of Avatar.

Story:

Even if the mission seems simple, nothing could be farther from the truth. Ultima 4 is the first Ultima to have a sort of artificial intelligence. If you pillage and plunder to get the Codex, people won't waant to help you. On the other hand, if you are a symbol of truth and justice, people will be glad to help you. Also, it's the first game to feature two of the Avatar's close friends, Iolo and Shamino.

Graphics :

The graphics look a look like the remake of Ultima 1, but with more details. The game has 16 colors and beautiful rich graphics. The environnement are realistic and complex, putting you directly in the action.

Music and Sounds:

Again, there is no music in this game, only beeps from the PC Speaker. Fortunatly Actually, every version EXCEPT the PC and Atari version featured a full musical score.

Theme and Fun:

This game was a major step in the Ultima series, feature this special artificial intelligence. It aslo had a great story and a special introduction. Although it was fun, like most Utimas, I found it hard to find out what to do next, which can be a great problem. This was an important game, since it apppeared on 6 different platforms. It was also included once in a popular magazine as a special promotion, boosting Ultima's popularity.
